Posted: 11 Aug 2010 08:44 AM PDT The Constrained Ball is one of those concepts I can easily see myself buying from a late night infomercial. I’m not saying it’s bad but the novel approach to a simple kind of problem is endearing. Fitted with a rubber gasket, the gadget helps you draw straight lines and indicates the length. OMG, is this the end of the ruler’s dominance?!? No but I quite like this concept. I’m a stickler for drawing straight lines. It’s either gotta be straight and perfect or it’s a no-go for me. Posted: 11 Aug 2010 08:35 AM PDT There’s an austere aesthetic to the Stabl Lamp by Kassen. It blends biomorphic design elements with “brutalist principles in steadfast materials.” Indeed the mix of steel, curved to soften the effect, stands out on its concrete base. Topped with a simple hollow plywood block, one could say the design is at equilibrium. It’s a modernist approach but one that’s sure to stay relevant. Kassen is currently taking orders through their website. If any of you buy one, please post a picture on our Facebook page. Designer: Kassen Lifestyle ---------- |
Garlic And Onion Totally Cubed Posted: 11 Aug 2010 01:15 AM PDT One of the stinkiest jobs in the kitchen is to peel and chop onions and garlic! The pungent smell lingers on my nails inspite of repeated washes! This is why I think we need the Garlizi, a magical kitchen tool that will grind/chop and store the garlic and onion as ready-to-use cubes….like the cheese cubes we buy at stores! A few back-n-forth turns to the wheel and the job is done. Don't believe me? Watch the video…. Designer: Jang Young Jin ---------- |
Is That A Steel Brick In The Wall? Posted: 11 Aug 2010 01:00 AM PDT Not another brick in the wall, but a metallic faucet if you please! We are here discussing the "Reveal/Conceal", which is an embedded faucet that doubles up as a mini storage unit and colorful nightlight. The delightful piece fixes flush into its environment and can be used within masonry walls as a load bearing piece as well. A slight push at the logo end swings the faucet into the open position, ready to be used. A discreet lever for manual temperature and water flow adjustment enforces the design's mission at being a simple hinge and bold cantilevering faucet. I love the reveal and conceal aspect, simply super! The Reveal/Conceal Faucet is a Reece Bathroom Innovation Awards Finalists Designer: Andrew Tang-Smith ---------- |
Posted: 11 Aug 2010 12:15 AM PDT Have to think to myself…what a great idea! A flashlight that split opens to become a lamp….and what's more, the solar cells recharge even in the open lamp status! Essentially you're making use of the handy flashlight even when it's not an emergency. I can imagine using this in place of a table lamp or hang it up instead of a bulb. So, Yanko readers where do you think you will use this MIA Electric Flashlight Lamp? Designer: Jia Dai ---------- |
Posted: 11 Aug 2010 12:08 AM PDT The general perception of an elegant office desk is one of a long distinguished looking table with plenty of drawers and probably fashioned out of mahogany. Coming out of the dream world and into reality, such office desks are out of our reach and we need to make-do with the flat table that comes our way. Designer Rebwar Faille comes up with a simple resolve with his idea of an office table…a mix between the school tables with concealed storage and long office desks. Perhaps not as elegant as mahogany, but functional enough! Designer: Rebwar Faille ---------- |
Posted: 11 Aug 2010 12:02 AM PDT How many of you love plug-n-play electronics? I do. How about plug-n-play furniture? ME. This “Honey Chair” stool is part of the Honey Collection by designer Sooyon Park. Its stainless steel legs are available to switch with any of the other legs in the Honey Collection. The legs you see here have the soft shape of a drop of honey with the feel of string due to the materials used. Lathes reshaped blocks of stainless steel into flexible forms. What a loveliness! I love shaped steel! Certainly made for your home, office, or office home, but think of the ironic possibilities! A giant honeycomb shaped house! A yellow and black palace for bee lovers! Sweet to the eye tongues! Designer: Sooyon Park ---------- |
Posted: 11 Aug 2010 12:00 AM PDT I'm not talking about a beer guzzling championship here, but the simple power of the bottom half of your tableware. Let me explain…a plate or a dish placed the right side up is the usual norm, so how about adding functionality to its wrong side? Get the drift? The Other Side tableware is just that…adding a juice squeezer to the bottom of a tumbler and a dips tray to the flipside of a dish. Convenient, cool and useful! Designer: Yim Jeong-seok ---------- |
