One Step Closer To Interactive Television Posted: 09 Aug 2010 08:49 AM PDT In the late 80’s I remember seeing many television concepts designed to engage the user. Remember Smell-O-Vision? Designers recognized interactivity was the future but they couldn’t foresee the advanced software and hardware solutions we have today. Check out MetaMirror, a concept software platform that enables you to access content relative to the show you’re watching. Almost everything today has secondary content and this is a much more elegant solution than sitting in front of a computer. Designer: Notion ---------- |
Posted: 09 Aug 2010 08:40 AM PDT Agility and sensitivity are the two prerequisites for an accomplished chef. What will enhance the performance of even the most established professional is a system that can minimize the clusterfuck of seasoning. Cruet showcases a neat, streamlined container set design with generously diverse color schemes and types to be used in the kitchen. The smooth elegant contour of the container – a reminder of the conventional milk bottle – offers the chef a good grip; comfortable yet an intriguing aesthetic sensation. Posted: 09 Aug 2010 03:15 AM PDT The Move-it Kit is actually quite a neat idea for those who walk back home with all their shopping goodies. The DIY kit is a makeshift trolley that's really durable and is made from self-adhesive cardboard parts. It transforms from reckless pieces of cardboard to a functional cart for parcels within minutes. You don't have to be a genius to piece the cart together because its construction is very basic and simple. It's strong enough to take in up to 20 kgs and the parts stay bonded strong thanks to the special repulpable contact adhesive. Consisting of a set of wheels and two different types of handle, a combination of these components allows you to move boxes of almost any size and shape! Once home, you can literally recycle the whole trolley (wheels and adhesive included) because once used, you can't dismantle it and reuse again. This is its the only downside. You can vote for this and other James Dyson Awards entries here. Designer: David Graham ---------- |
Posted: 09 Aug 2010 02:38 AM PDT The modern ruler or measuring tape hasn't been innovated enough, or so feels designer Yan-Ting Chen. Especially when it comes to conversion of Metric Units to Imperial (or vice versa), while on the job, it's tough to pull out the calculator or tax your brains with the mental math. So here's the solution that will keep your hand steady while mark with the ruler aid and do the centimeters to inches in a jiffy, The E Ink Ruler! I'm not getting into the tech-specs (not been provided!), but for its idea per se I think this is super! Designer: Yan-Ting Chen ---------- |
Posted: 09 Aug 2010 12:39 AM PDT Some chairs are better suited for sitting. Some are better suited for viewing. From the look of this new chair design by Darko Markovic, this chair was meant for both. The “Hodie Chair”(Hodie is Latin for “today”) is a minimalistic design with a wide, surefooted stance. Go ahead, squint your eyes a little and stare at this chair design. Do you see a mixture of intergalactic space commander seating mixed with a Formula One race car seating? No? Maybe it’s just me. Three point seat belt sold separately. Designer: Darko Markovic ---------- |
Posted: 09 Aug 2010 12:05 AM PDT Did you know that Starbuck’s Coffee sells on average 30 MILLION cups of coffee a day? That’s almost 11 BILLION cups of coffee a year! As impressive as that statistic may be, the flip side of their fortune building is the tons and tons of wasted paper and plastic involved with every single caffeine fix. Designer Christopher Panopoulos does not have a solution for all that waste, but he does want the ubiquitous coffee cup to serve double duty and be slightly more sustainable. How about a Willy Wonka inspired edible lid? Or a lid that flips into an ashtray? I’m not sure what his intention is with these other two designs but regardless, he got us here at Yanko Design thinking… how would you repurpose a cup of coffee? Posted: 09 Aug 2010 12:00 AM PDT If you are planning on being an urban crime fighter but still can’t justify the gas guzzling tendencies of most superhero vehicles, well your ride has (conceptually) arrived. Designer Jean Baptiste Robilliard has rendered up this “CUSTOM BIKE CONCEPT” that would make Bruce Wayne’s attorneys take notice. Jean Baptiste describes it as a “two wheel muscle car”, hiding it’s electrical drivetrain and batteries in the frame. Featuring a FORMULA 1 inspired KINETIC ENERGY RECOVERY SYSTEM (KERS), that essentially coverts your braking into energy. Originally conceived as a single global design, this customizable creation could be the shape of things to come. Designer: Jean Baptiste Robilliard ---------- |
