Posted: 27 Apr 2010 08:45 AM PDT There’s an old Chinese saying, “tea is drunk to forget the din of the world.” There’s some irony in that truth, as much as the world indulges itself with problems, tea is universally understood as an escape. Wars would even pause for both sides to ceremoniously share cups of tea. TASTE is a physical manifestation of that tranquility. The organic shape castes a reflection describing majesty and peace; the moon and the mountains. Gorgeous design. Designer: Ran Xiangfei |
When Two Wheels Are Better Than Two Posted: 27 Apr 2010 06:49 AM PDT Let’s deal with some harsh reality here. Aside from letting Lindsay Lohan drive your SUV on a saturday night, the most dangerous vehicle to operate on the planet is a motorcycle. Designer Igor Chak knows this fact all to well. He has designed a concept that does its best to make your two wheeled lifestyle a lot less horrifying. Incorporating every bell and whistle you can imagine into this concept, Igor has rendered up a motorcycle that would make Tony Stark rust with jealousy. Features like:
Had enough? The features continue…
Still not enough? Let’s move on to the gadget integration…
So, with all these features, are you now willing to risk your life to look this cool? If he adds an integrated cappuccino maker I am the first in line. |
My Kitchen Is A Cabinet! Really Posted: 27 Apr 2010 02:36 AM PDT No Kidding, but if I were to listen to He Ruimin then my kitchen would be just a cabinet with everything imaginable within it. Refrigerator, electric cook top, garbage bin, storage, and indicator lights on the fridge and stove to warn me about hot and cold surfaces! Good for the LOHAS gang, this concept makes me smile and frown. Smile because I think its and neat idea for restricted homes, and frown because I love elaborate big kitchens! Designer: He Ruimin |
Posted: 27 Apr 2010 01:35 AM PDT The afterlife never sounded so good. Feeding France’s insatiable appetite for all things ancient Egyptian (Yeah, I’m talkin’ to you Napoleon!), French designer Stéphane Thivend cracked many whips to bring us the “Horus” pyramid coffee table. This Ancient Wonder is made from high performance concrete and features a powered integrated dual speaker system and iPod dock. And to further ensure a captive audience, Stéphane also included an integrated LED lighting effect with your choice of 24 Pharaoh approved colors. – Sent from my iPad while listening to Pink Floyd. Posted: 27 Apr 2010 12:20 AM PDT Sometimes a container contains objects which just aren’t true to what they portray on the outside. Sometimes this difference is extremely drastic. Take tissues for example. Inside the box, they lay flat. They look nice, they’re in basically a flat-sided unit all laying there together. But wait! When they exit the box, they’ve got… bends! Crumples and dents! Well that’s just not fair to tell a person such a lie. Solution maker? John Brauer. Designer John Brauer had an idea. He was walking around in Japan one day and he saw a tissue sticking out of a box, all bent up. He said to himself “what a lie that box is, fah!” So he set out to make a box of his own… a crumpled box! One that fit the bill. And here that is. Made of a composite of PE and synthetic rubber, this box cover is made to cover most any box from anywhere around the world. Get crumply! Posted: 27 Apr 2010 12:10 AM PDT For those of you who love to rag on people about using a big brandname for their project as their project’s name, this is for you! But also it’s a friggin amazing design, so stuff it! This project is called “SevenUp,” and it’s a chandelier. From your friend Tim Baute who’s known to say “fork you!” to conventional usage of materials comes this lovely bit of new nostalgia. A light chandelier, one that does not pull down your roof with weight. This SevenUp is light, smart, and nice to look at. Electricity cables as the middle structure. Bundled in the center, the center hanging from the ceiling. At the end of each of the seven arms is a 5 watt light bulb, holding each of these bulbs up is a fine steel cable. Each of these steel cables is attached to a light structure at the ceiling aligning them in a way that gives the look of a classical form of chandelier loveliness. Don’t get caught in a wind storm in your dining room! Designer: Time Baute of Interror Design |
Posted: 27 Apr 2010 12:02 AM PDT With one simple strategic gesture, designers at Form Us With Love have created not just a tea candle, but a candle with no heat for hands. What in the world? What I mean is it’s perfectly simple to light the wick without burning your fingers. It’s got a little slit down the side that makes it easy to light the candle inside the glass without any heat lighting your match, arm, and hair on fire! Ahhh! Dude fire? No. I don’t mess with it. I burn myself up with it. Regardless of my name, and that is my real name you see in the author spot, I am no good at burning. If I were to light candles with this little diddy? I could make it happen. It could totally work out fine. Designer: Form Us With Love |
