Google Envelopes, Beta Of Course

Posted: 30 Mar 2010 06:26 AM PDT

Designers Rahul Mahtani & Yofred Moik from the Industrial Design program at Syracuse University came up with this concept called Google Envelopes. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to map the course of mail and how it can tell a story? They came up with Google Envelopes, which can be sent through G-Mail itself. It’s only a concept, but totally viable and something people can immediately understand.

Sharing Is Caring

Posted: 30 Mar 2010 06:22 AM PDT

Rotate It is a bookshelf that rotates inside a shared common wall. Queue the herds of collegiate brainiacs in grad school majoring in comparative literature. It’s an interesting concept that if nothing else, certainly keeps your wall looking fresh and new. However I suggest only using this with someone you trust – like your cat, because cats read and have quite discerning taste in literature.

Enchanting Folding-out Laptop With Utopian Specs

Posted: 30 Mar 2010 02:28 AM PDT

No matter how advanced, progressive, sleek and lightweight our laptops get, the one thing that we sorely miss is an elaborate keyboard. I know of someone who uses his Macbook but in conjunction with a wireless keyboard. Many hybrids and self-built versions are out there being used by folks, so the question really is, are we happy with what the industry is dishing out to us? Or do we have to lust after Utopian concepts like the iWEB 2.0…with really drool-worthy features!

Money Honey, Glows In The Dark!

Posted: 30 Mar 2010 01:00 AM PDT

You can be a dork at times and hand out the wrong currency notes, especially in a dim lit cab. Don't expect anyone to rectify your mistakes…your loss is another man's gain! Tough luck and be careful till the agencies get the heads up on inventions like the Luminous Paper Money. Notes that emit a soft glow, just enough to ensure you hand out the correct note; nothing more nothing less.

Rollin and Buggin!

Posted: 30 Mar 2010 12:14 AM PDT

Keep on buggin, that’s what I say. Keep on buggin in the free world. Do it on this. This is the “City Bug” scooter, designed by Omer Menashri for all the world to keep buggin. It’s electric, designed for urban life, created in the abstract form of the ever-so-inspirational grasshopper. Made to overcome obstacles, like fashion, which it totally rips a hole in with its new-age form. And bumps on the ground! Which it completely takes care of business over with it’s front AND rear suspension which allow for you to be grasshopping across the landscape.

Like the grasshopper adapted itself to live inside the city, says Menashri, so too does the City Bug, living in a city world made up of bumps, bums, and other radical things you could totally launch over.

*NOTE: this vehicle is not made for launching over things. Just for cruzin.

Heavy Coffee Observation

Posted: 30 Mar 2010 12:10 AM PDT

Hello all you people out there with a healthy addiction to joe. Every one of your lives are about to change, for the BETTER! And yes, believe it or not, that doesn’t mean getting rid of your coffee in any way shape or form, no! Designer Omer Deutsch wants you to drink as much coffee as you want, and in as comfortable a position as possible. This right here is a brand new cup, with a brand new giant handle. All for you, all for love.

All for the love of the joe. Mister Omer Deutsch decided that the handles of coffee cups were too small, and I agree with him. I must admit that I drink zero coffee during my day because I think it tastes like tar, but I have definitely used my share of the cups, and they’re silly! Look at that little handle you’ve got there, what are you, a mouse? No way! You need a big fat huge handle, the biggest and the fattest ever!

That’s why I support this coffee cup heavily. So very much.

Made of wood and ceramic.

Not a Trash Ball

Posted: 30 Mar 2010 12:03 AM PDT

Nay! For we know that the much more appeasing term for a container of trash is, of course, the “Bin!” The project you are about to look at here is called the “Bin.Ball” because it is not only a bin, it’s a ball. And it’s made for using during the times when you happen to be having a ball too, as in, having a totally rockin time at a party. You’ve got to be bin-conscious! In these modern times of interior design perfection, you’ve got to think ahead, or rather, on your feet. Put that trash you’ve got in these big colorful balls!

Yes, these are balls that are meant to be filled with trash at parties. They consist of two balls: one outer ball, one inner ball that holds the trash or recycling. Between these two balls is a layer of air, pumped into the ball contraption before the party begins with a compressor.

How does the trash or recycling stay in the ball, you might ask? Valves. With the simple use of valves, anything is possible! These balls are meant to be kicked around, played with, and made to be part of the party.

How bizarre.

Design a LG Phone That’s Not Too Futuristic!

Posted: 29 Mar 2010 08:20 AM PDT

LG, Autodesk, and crowdSPRING in the same breath can mean only one thing: Time to participate in LG's Design The Future Competition. This year there is a certain twist in the tale, so do you consider yourself a designer up for a real-world challenge? There is little room for speculation because you need to design a revolutionary mobile device that will appeal to the cellphone-generation of United States, 2-3 years down the line. Drawing up a long list of specs will get you nowhere, but illustrating an innovative new experience or story on a 1024 x 3072 pixels page can win you some real handsome booty. There's even a chance to have your design be made into a non-working mock-up by guest judge Russell Bobbitt, a world renowned movie prop master (Star Trek, Iron Man and Iron Man 2). Imagine seeing your mock-up in Bobbitt's next blockbuster film. How cool would that be?
