Chocolate Is Sexy

Posted: 29 Mar 2010 08:25 AM PDT

Chocolate – it’s sensual, sexual, and delicious; known the world over for its mood altering properties and palette pleasuring sensibilities. We’re not supposed to play with food but Forplay is a concept near and dear to my heart. It explores the three main ways chocolate is enjoyed: licking, melting, and pouring. Ooh how scintillating!

Each of the three sets in this concept are made from porcelain and focuses on three distinct gestures shared among chocolate lovers around the world.

• Colors: Using a brush filled with hot, liquid chocolate to draw onto a frozen plate, freezes the chocolate as the "painter's" art…until it is eaten, of course.

• The Mountain: Mountain-shaped chocolate that covers the lips of the cup, melts when hot milk is poured on it, creating a nice cup of hot coco.

• The Mussels: Eating chocolate much like the ritual of eating mussels and oysters from their shells, encourages licking, an expression of sensuality that is taboo in most public places.

Broken Bricks Makes Lego Dreams

Posted: 29 Mar 2010 08:16 AM PDT

Concrete is a valuable resource yet we burn thru it like it’s free air so companies around the world are looking for ways to make concrete “greener” and sustainable. Last week I heard about concrete made from hemp so the future is bright but what about all the concrete we have now? There is a solution. The Broken Bricks recycling machine turns any old concrete into new Lego-like bricks for use in numerous applications. It’s pretty well thought out and I’m sure our construction mavens would love to pile these life sized toys together.

Air Dried And Bacteria Free!

Posted: 29 Mar 2010 02:30 AM PDT

One of the best and hygienic ways of drying the dishes is airing them. Nothing like some good old sunrays to do the job! Stackable Cups encourages this habit by featuring four projections that allow the water to drain out completely, when you stack glasses one-on-top-of-the-other. Stacked wet glasses generally stick to each other and pulling them apart can get tricky; so this design kinda resolves that issue too. Moreover, they make the set look kitsch!

Gum Disposal Done Right

Posted: 29 Mar 2010 01:50 AM PDT

If you get chewing gum stuck to something precious (clothes, shoes, hair etc.) then rub some ice to harden it and then scrape it off. The point is, you got chewing gum stuck to you because an irresponsible nutcase probably owns a bottle of chewing gum and had no handy paper around for proper disposal. The ingenious "Green Seeds" chewing gum bottle design addresses this issue and features a perforated paper-tape dispenser at the bottom of the bottle plus a temporary storage space for used gums. Stating it simple: pull off the paper stub, wrap the used gum and shove it into the bottom, till you find a dustbin. Orbit…you listening?

Shoes of the Centipede

Posted: 29 Mar 2010 12:10 AM PDT

Flex your toes in these bad boys, I tell you soccer players all over the world. Football players! I meant to say that. The ball is round, and you kick it across the field into the goal. That game. Put these shoes on for it. These are the Umbro “Centipax” shoes, a concept by Tobin Dorn. It’s an outsole design that absorbs the impact of everything using injected EVA and makes you fly above the ground with super speed. Lightweight, flex grooves in the heel, distribution of impact. Inspired by the creepiest crawliest insect in the world, the trillion legged centipede.

I’m sure you’re aware of the fabulous natural powers of the centipede, the fiercest animal in the insect kingdom. It’s got a billion legs, it’s got to keep its footwear fresh! And with these Centipax soles, it’s got as much distribution of impact from the outside as its own magnificent body.

Sit on Sound

Posted: 29 Mar 2010 12:02 AM PDT

Available in your choice of a fabulous aluminum and brushed metal or GUNMETAL. Yes, you too can sit on sound. It’s the “Sound Lounge” from Sony! Actually a concept from non other than designer Sharifah Nasser, the sound blaster! This is a coffee table that is also a sound system. Depending on the house you’re in, they might not want you sitting upon it. Then again, you could happen upon it in the lobby or a record company, where they let you do whatever you like, just don’t steal the magazines.

Switch it on, spread it out. The sound system you see here is hidden. As it is revealed, so too can you see the touchscreen music navigation system and the CD or MP3 format choice. Very sleek, moderntastic, lovely.

Bonus question: when do you think we’ll be on to the next hard format? Is it disks forever? Or maybe back to the tape?! Hooray!

All formats obey lord coffee table!
