Never Too Late to Learn How to Read Posted: 17 Dec 2010 02:05 AM PST Adult illiteracy comes with social stigmas that prevent many people from trying to learn how to read. The abcDARIAN is designed to discreetly help them achieve their goals. The two-sided, touch enabled device is transparent. You skim over written matter and it phonetically reads it out into an earpiece. It comes with a stylus but the most unique feature is the ability to slowdown speech feedback, just in case it’s reading too fast. Designer: Sandra Brügmann ---------- |

From Devastating Bomb to Floating Coat Rack Posted: 17 Dec 2010 01:00 AM PST Well here’s a unique way to memorialize Hiroshima. Hirosima (sic) combines the magical wonder that is the “Red Balloon” to prop up a weapon the forever changed history. Put your esoteric thinking caps on. The balloon keeps the bomb from landing, therefor preventing devastation. The bomb is turned into a mundane utilitarian object by becoming a coat rack, essentially castrating it of its original intent. Designers: Mehmet Erdi Özgürlük & Anıl Ercan ---------- |
Posted: 17 Dec 2010 12:37 AM PST I can't help but notice how sterile this conceptual cooking range looks in white; a color that easily soils in the manic frenzy of cooking! However I totally love the induction cooking plate and gas burner combo, with matching exhaust hood no less. It's called the EEH-Ventilator & Gas Stove. Could be quite beneficial in countries where the delivery of gas cylinders can take weeks! Yeah, not all of us are piped up! Designer: Chao Gao ---------- |
Posted: 17 Dec 2010 12:03 AM PST This is a lovely basin faucet that lets you know exactly what’s going on with your hot and cold water. How? Take a peek! It’s not one of those newfangled digital display sorts of things, nay, this is just fabulous sculptural design. Across the head of the faucet you’ll see two paths, one for cold water, and one for hot. As they meet at the tip of the spout, a magical combination brings you warm. This lovely design comes equipped with a user-friendly mounting system called ISMAFIX that allows basically anyone the ability and safe environment they need to install the faucet all by their self! All you’ve got to do is insert the exposed brass part in the faucet hole, put the seals around, turn the blue ISMAFIX tool until to secure the faucet in place, and WOW! You’ve just done it yourself. This faucet is (or will be?) available at a price that “won’t break the bank” through DIY retailers – fun! DUO washbasin mixer is a Red Dot Product Design award winner in for the year 2010 in the category of Bathrooms, spa and air-conditioning! Designers: ISMA Creative Faucet ---------- |
Posted: 17 Dec 2010 12:03 AM PST Snap a photograph, please and thank you. Freaked out yet? It’s not a spy concept! This is a friendly through-camera photo session, and it goes all year around. This concept goes by the name “Daily you,” and it’s a mirror with a camera embedded into it. Each time you stand in front of the mirror in the morning to touch up your face (or whatever you do there), it detects you looking into it, focuses, and takes a single photograph. Once there is a collection of photos of your face, there’s a “Play” mode which can show you images by week, by month, or annually – or of course, however often you’d like. As time goes on, the mirror will end up capturing so many photos that you’ll be able to track your most “natural” mirror expressions and see things like color trends in your clothing. As a bonus, basically, since this concept is already super neato, the device collects and uses solar energy as power in order to both save the environment and make a long-lasting piece of technology.
