Posted: 13 Aug 2010 03:58 AM PDT Seems to be a cycle fest on Yanko Design today, the second installment comes in the shape of the Lunartic Cycle. A bike that's got a really unique combination of different wheel sizes, a toothed belt drive and hub less rear wheel! The USP being the gyroscopic effect of a large wheel aiding speed and more road-surface contact adding stability. The small front wheel saves space and enhances maneuverability. For a change, here is a concept that goes into a working prototype to prove its point, hope you enjoy the video! The Lunartic Cycle is an entry for the James Dyson Awards. Posted: 13 Aug 2010 12:13 AM PDT Hey all you photographers, get out of that camera box! Lemme show you something. This is a camera shape I’ll bet you a dollar you’ve not come across before. This is Yaniv Berg’s Digital Reflex Camera (DSLR), and it’s like a chute. The camera body is one in the same with the camera lens, while the curve at the end shows the image to your eyeballs through a fabulous rectangle interface. Another interface appears along the side. How about that? Like a tube. In a daring move to move the camera aesthetic itself forward, the form, the holding position, all of that, Berg took a tip from old reflex cameras where the eyepiece was on TOP of the camera rather than at the back. These cameras make the photographer cradle the cam to their stomach during the process, creating an entirely different experience than holding it up to their face. This pose was what Berg hoped to attain. Then, as you turn the camera, the interface screen turns the image to display mode, rotating 180 degrees as the screen is directed at the observer. Sorta like it’s ALIVE. Designer: Yaniv Berg ---------- |
Posted: 13 Aug 2010 12:03 AM PDT This is a rather unique sort of table and drawers situation if you ask me. This is a project whipped up by designer Nenad Kostadinov and what it consists of is a curved table with rotating drawers. Rotating! No more silly pulling and shoving for you, nay! Now there’s lots of swooshing. This is a low height wooden living room table with four of these unique drawers made for storing magazines, knick-knacks, and all manner of small objects. Basically this object is constructed of a single “bendywood” piece that’s supported by two cylinders, each of these cylinders being also the axis of rotation for each of the drawers. Posted: 13 Aug 2010 12:03 AM PDT It’s time to fold that transport all the way up. Get atop your bike, ride it, then store it. No more leaving it outside for bike thieves to chop up for you, nay! This is “Le Pliable,” a fold-up bike concept by Saul Maret. This one’s based on the central headset position with an X silhouette. Foldable in the frame, saddle, pedals, swingarm, and handlebar. Depending on where you’ve gotta store it, you can fold one or all of the things I just listed. Do what’s gotta be done! All spare parts are standard, too, so this bike can be repaired easily at any of your local bike shops. Then when you’ve got to lug it around after it’s folded, no worries: the folded position affords a wheel still moving so that you can push it around like a golf caddy. The Big iPad Giveaway: WIN 16GB WiFi iPad And A ColcaSac iPad Sleeve Posted: 13 Aug 2010 12:00 AM PDT Yanko Design in conjunction with the awesome folks at ColcaSac is doing an iPad Giveaway. The contest is open Worldwide! ColcaSac is a company that makes many kinda sleeves for devices, but here we are focusing on their iPad range. The design is well thought out and includes niches like a power adaptor pocket. The handmade sleeves are stitched from tough materials that are easy on the environment. Moreover the range is quite affordable at $35 each! Checkout their Fanpage here. This is the sleeve that the lucky iPad winner is going to take home! Made from heavy duty 18.5 oz basketweave hemp canvas, this black beauty matches the heavy kohl eyes of an Arabic belly dancer! The Cusco iPad Sleeve is made from made from hand loomed, naturally grown cotton from Oaxaca Mexico. What's special about this cotton is that the farmers grow their crop without using pesticides and this practice has been on for generations! Makes people turn green with envy! The legacy of the Damask pattern (named after the city of Damascus) continues with this sleeve… The Damask is made from finely printed cotton and is reinforced with a second layer of cotton. The vivid blue with black is astonishing! Sourced from the hemp grown and harvested in rural China, the Hanakapiai iPad Sleeve features a dark brown, heavy duty 18.5 oz basketweave hemp canvas. Needless to say, the hemp is grown naturally without pesticides. Loud and dramatic, the orange on the Federale iPad Sleeve suits it best! I adore this particular shade for its tinge and wonder if the "not certified as organic cotton" tag has anything to do with it! To state the steps once again for you: STEP 1) Pick Your Favorite ColcaSac iPad Sleeve from the list above Rules: Contest Closes: 15th August 11:59 pm ---------- |
