Let’s Play Lego Sockets

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 04:33 AM PST

Rotating 360° is a multi-outlet socket system that allows you to add many sockets to the strip – ala Lego style. The main feature is that you can turn around the socket-outlets in any direction, so as to accommodate various plugs. You have to admit that this is a cool idea.

Come Share My Music

The very special Hexound is a headset that detaches to become portable speakers. The cool-quotient is brought in by the solar panel fixed in the headband. Specs include Bluetooth connectivity and intuitive controls. I simply love the versatility of becoming a crowd-friendly device from a personal thang.

Coffee Table VS Surfboard Stand

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 12:04 AM PST

Behold! An odd combo. Occasionally we’re sent some work or we find some work by a designer or artist that has such a fabulous air about it that we’ve got to post more than one of their works (however disparate from one another) at a time. This is definitely one of those times. Take a look at these two works by Rob Davies of Thoughtwood Fine Furniture and tell us if these look similar to you – lemme give you a hint at their common denominator: quality.

Behold the excellent craftsmanship on these two new-age pieces of woodcraft. Not only are they both innovative in their shape, but they both work as beacons for Davies, leading like searchlights back to their source: an extended collection of massively wonderful works.

Three Dimensions for the Fourth

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 12:03 AM PST

Lemme tell you before we start, this is one of those concepts that, although it ends up being rather simple, starts really deep. This is a clock whose roots go all the way back to the history of humanity, the realization of time, and the portrayal of it in written or sculpted form. The designers of this clock recall ancient Egyptian Priests, Celtic Druids, Roman Engineers, and Renaissance Artists, each of them attempting to specify time with a single boundary. This breaks that.

To break out of the notion that all time is a boundary, and that although time is but a moment, it’s always moving in more than one dimension, the designers of this clock, “Monolith,” have taken time to two sides. This clock is a block, and on two sides of it the time is displayed.

This is an art work that can be made in any color. It’s got an LEG display, polished surfaces (glass or plastic,) alarm function, and works with batteries. To be placed on coffee tables, commodes, and office furniture.

This design is a 2010 Red Dot Design Award winner!

TRON Watch for Glowy Goodness

Posted: 23 Dec 2010 12:02 AM PST

Wait a second, didn’t I just write about this? Wait no! I just wrote about something that’d go REALLY WELL with this, the Campbell version Light Cycle by Wallace Campbell! Ride on down the grid with that and this and you’ll be the bell of the ball. What we’re looking at HERE isn’t a cycle, it’s a watch. Everyone loves a good watch here at Yanko Design, right? This is no exception. Shiny lights and a unique way of looking at time? Right on.

The time here is displayed with hours and five minute hexa-slots – just how it should be, of course! It’s branded with the NEW Tron movie logo, that being Tron: Legacy. Take a look at the rest of the items we’ve posted in the extended Tron inspired world by, you guessed it, searching for the word TRON in your search panel (or by clicking [here])
