TRUform Clothing Rack by Vishaal Verma

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 09:22 AM PDT

Conventional clothing racks and hooks all have the same problem. They’re not visually appealing and almost always leave annoying marks and indentations on clothing. The TRUform clothing rack distributes load evenly while supporting clothing leaving knits, jackets, and t-shirts completely unmarred. I like the modern simplicity of the design.

It’s constructed from a bamboo backboard available in two colors; dark cherry and natural, which is accented with brushed/polished aluminum hangar units, each with detachable rubber hooks available in five colors; white, yellow, green, blue, and rose. Additional colors can be purchased separately allowing for complete interchangeability whenever desired.

Kill That Annoying Noise!

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 02:43 AM PDT

Noise cancellation earphones eliminate ambient noises so that you can listen to music clearly or sleep peacefully in the drone. But how about the time that you want to filter out the electronic noises of machines etc. in your environment, and hold a conversation with your co-worker? The Kill Noise earplug suits this purpose and realizes noise reduction by electronic filtering, which can make people communicate easily in the noisy environments. The bright-orange polyester buds have an adjustment knob to set the filters and a built-in battery that lasts long.

Microbes Free Kitchen Thingies

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 02:05 AM PDT

So what is your cleaning routine for dishcloths and kitchen cutting boards? Mine is this: for the cutting board, I scrub it clean with an ordinary dish-soap and every now and then I boil the dishcloth in soap + disinfectant water. I follow this routine for the lack of "sterilizing aids" in India, plus we are the lazy sorts…we have house helps to do most of this stuff. But on this global forum, I'm becoming more aware of the hazards of not having a good sanitizing routine. If I were to pick one, I'd use this convenient Pure System that sanitizes the cloth and board; in one go.

Although not specified by the designer, I am assuming it uses a UV system and maybe some washing techniques as well. I like its wall mount orientation, can have it hanging next to the water filter system that I have.

Mobile Hi-Fi Audio, B&W P5 Review

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 01:40 AM PDT

Listen we’re family right? Can I share something with you? They’re called the P5 Headphones from Bowers & Wilkins. You’re probably familiar with their goods. I’ve reviewed them here and here and only had good things to say. The P5 is no different. It’s ultra-lux, sounds good, and has a built-in mic/volume control for the iPhone! I’m not even gonna make you wait til’ after the jump. I’ll tell you now the P5 is awesome. There, I said it. Ambivalent? Hit the jump.

I’m going to keep this review short and sweet. There’s only so much you can say about headphones. No matter what a manufacture does, there are a few pre-reqs that separate a good pair from an excellent one.

Does the company have a history in audio? Yes, B&W are known the world over for their audio equipment. Up until recently, they mostly catered to the audiophiles but the good thing is consumers like us reap the rewards – rich audio for a fraction of the cost.

Feel good? Oh yes! It’s padded and covered in supple leather. The build quality is excellent and everything moves with just the right amount of tension – a hallmark of superior craftsmanship. It’s luxurious without being tacky or forced – simply effortless and even from afar, the design stands out among a sea of brand names.

Sound good? Put a check mark next to that box too. The sound is vibrant and you can really hear the difference with lossless audio. B&W calls it “natural sound.” The range is superb. Highs, lows, mids – all sound clear and intelligible. I especially love the way the ear pads are designed. They kinda cocoon your ears to provide noise isolation. No software based wizardry here, just really good industrial design.

Can you seal the deal for me? I sure can! The iPhone and iPod compatible built-in mic/volume control is a boon. The design is pretty much a clone of what comes packed with the Apple branded earbuds but worlds apart in terms of audio reproduction. You can even hear the difference when making phone calls.

B&W always nails it when it comes to providing a luxury audio experience without having to sell a kidney to pay for it. At $299, the P5’s are comparable with other higher end headphones in the market but small features like New Zealand leather and full iPhone/iPod compatibility make it a smart buy anyone looking to experience hi-fi audio on the go. Hear sound the way it was meant to be and look chic while doing it too.

What we loved:

  • Beautifully designed by Native
  • Superb craftsmanship
  • Compact and comes with case
  • iPhone/iPod compatibility
  • Ultra-luxurious with leather and metal accents
  • Cord is just the right length
  • Priced to move at $299

What could be improved:

  • Perhaps a white one?

Lights Above, Lights Below

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 12:12 AM PDT

Where do you have all of your lamps? Above? To the side? All around? How about you get some lamps that sit on the ground and some other lamps that sit above your head? How about a collection of lamps that works in basically any position? Take a look at this “7/7 Lights” lamp collection by Albertine van Iterson. Each lamp is made out of its own materials, has its own identity, and require slightly different treatments. Yet at the same time, they’re all part of the same family.

How you interact with this set of lamps is entirely up to you. Get a bunch of the wood ones and let them all fly above your head. Get a few metal lamps and lie them around your lovely wood-floored no-cat apartment. Or get them all, all the different sorts of lamps in the 7/7 Lights series, place them all around your huge house!

It’s a lamp family.

Specifically for Lobster

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 12:03 AM PDT

The following post is about a set of utensils designed for you to have an excellent time completely destroying and consuming a lobster. Have you ever eaten lobster? It’s weird. It’s awesome because it tastes so good, but there’s always the possibility that you’ll be sitting there realizing you’re eating something that was alive not 1 hour before you put it in your stomach. So what should be done? A set of utensils should be made to make this process as pleasing as possible, because we have all these shellfish and someone’s gotta eat em.

This set of ‘ware is made to make the experience of the diner even more awesome than it would normally be, considering the fact that if you’re eating a lobster, generally you’re having a pretty good day. Generally a lobster is served already cracked open. But like when you’re served crab legs, it’s way more enjoyable cracking it open yourself. Crack the shell open, have a good time, eat up that mean that’s inside of the crab! Crabs are full of delicious meat!

Each piece here is made of folded stainless steel, giving it a look and feel that’s unique. Generally you get a set of silverware that’s cast or pressed, this way you’re going to have a wholly unique meal.

And then they can charge you even MORE for a shellfish! Yay!

Also I want these to eat everything else with too. I’m tired of all that regular silverware in the drawer. It’d go well with all my modern new-world furniture and lamps!

Speech to Text Glasses

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 12:03 AM PDT

So you’ve got a fish in your ear, right? You’re in trouble! Unless, of course, that fish is the same one they introduce in “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy,” in which case that fish, the Babel fish, feeds on communication fed into the ear, pooping it all out in a stream of information that your head can understand. It’s mutually beneficial. So what is this post about? It’s about the “BabelFisk,” a device that works in a very similar manner to the Babel fish, but instead spoken words being fed directly into your brain, they’re turned to text in front of your eyes.

BabelFisk is essentially speech recognition software tied in with hearing aid algorithms that help recognize speech in the midst of white noise. Once words are heard, they’re converted to text on the fly. Embedded controllers turn this heavy task into an easily manageable one, while 2 microphones work together to show which direction the sound is coming from.

And if you’d like to get creative, you could use this lovely device for your schoolwork or office work. BabelFisk can be used to take dictation at meetings and lectures, saving the sound info on flash memory in both audio and text format. Super fabulous and awesome for both the hearing impaired and those students covering for their lazy roommates!
