This Rat Is So Trapped!

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 05:43 AM PDT

Breaking from the conventional norm of a wood or metal trap that is aesthetically jarring on your design-sensibilities, the OneDown Rat Trap brings in a breath of fresh air into how we trap our pesky pests. Designer Aakash Dewan camouflages the trap as a tippled vase that stands upright once the pest has been lured to the bait sitting inside. As a tall-mouthed vase, the rat can't climb out and you find a humane way of disposing the creature, far away from your backyard and deep into the woods!

Dual Shower Is So Fantastic!

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 02:02 AM PDT

So far we have seen rain showerheads and the hand showers, designer Thomas Baker wants to give you the benefit of both for a wholesome shower experience. The idea is to have the overhead shower going while you detach the hand shower (encased in the overhead) and take the benefits of both the streams. This is the Unum Rain Shower and Hand Shower, simplified for you folks. I'd be first in line to experiment it and see if the rain-pressure and flow holds good while you use the hand one. No doubt there will be some difference in impact, but it will be worth the try.

Transparent Translator

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 12:10 AM PDT

The following object is a Universal Translator designed for interpreting languages, objects, concepts, and customs. Through its window mode, text mode, and speech mode, it allows the user to have a better understanding of the world around them. Designed for a world where not only have we become globalized, initiating communication between people of ALL nations, we’re also in an age of progress, where people WANT to work with each-other, talking over all lines. Highly intuitive, modeled on early-learning concepts of language development, relating closely with the highly popular Rosetta Stone application.

Translate!

In Window Mode you look through the screen out onto the world, identifying objects which are then relayed to the user. A Wiki of information is available as provided by people living in the areas the translator is attempting to navigate.

In Text Mode you simply translate text phrases. Translate signs, papers, or any other lettered material. Again a Wiki of information is used, and like Wikipedia, a staff of moderators ensures non-vandalized, true info.

In Speech Mode you can translate spoken word as it happens, between multiple people. Mic and speaker are located at the top of the device. Speak into the device and it’s played back in the language of your choice.

Keep Your Insect Self Safe

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 12:03 AM PDT

You’re climbing up a mountain, right? Me too. You’re climbing up a mountain and you’re thinking about all the granola you’ve got back there on you back, in your backpack. You think, gosh, what if a giant bird comes swooping down on me and sinks its huge talons into my pack, totally ripping and spilling all of my granola? What then? Disaster. No more granola! What should you do? Get a new pack. Get this one. It’s called the “Bug”, and it’s made with a 3mm thick plastic shell.

Granola protection!

These backpacks also work great when you’re cruising down the highway on your fabulous motorcycle. There’s a big campaign going on right now in my state (Minnesota) that’s encouraging bikers to wear more colorful clothing because all-black makes them hard to see. This’d be a great step!

Lots of colors! Lots of space to customize too.

Projector Camera Smily Face

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 12:03 AM PDT

Don’t let the designer fool you, it’s THREE things in one. This is “Pico,” a projector/video camera, two in one. The third thing is the cuteness. It has a camera for an eye, a projector for another eye, and a microphone for a smile. And what’s that? It’s got fold-out feet so it can stand on its own? Oh my goodness yes. It also has the ability to plug a tripod into it, but that’s neither here nor there. Isn’t this little guy just the most precious thing you’ve ever seen?

Present and record at the same time! The Pico also has the ability to work free of a laptop or other potentially cumbersome computer. Like the rest of this “smart object” generation, this device has the ability to do everything in and of itself. It has a full-size display on the back from whens you can also present on a more personal level.

Optical zoom lens, simple to use interface, compactness, loveliness.

Disposable Fine Dining

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 12:01 AM PDT

Let me show you a little bridge. Not across a body of water, but across lifestyles, functionalities, and coffee cups. Keeping in mind the Fast Food and reactionary Slow Food movements in dining, designer Kimming Yap created this completely disposable set of fine dining dinnerware. It’s called “Lugum” and it consists of an espresso cup, cappuccino cup, wine cup, shot cup, dish plate, and soup bowl. Designed with a wall thickness of 1.5mm and no undercuts for thin-gauge thermoforming manufacturing process.

Espresso cup and cappuccino cup made to interact with a handle that is customary to coffee drinking. Handle profile integrated into contour of the cup, making it an intuitive pinching area. The wine cup is similar, with a stem customary to wine and liqueur drinking. The plates integrate a single profile with two sides customizing the way the food can be presented. The bowl, also, is shaped in a way that easily allows the user to scoop it up from the base and sip sip sip.

Each of these items is designed to work intimately with the user, giving them the functionality of genuine tableware with all the convenience of disposables. Easy to stack, purchasable in bulk, made entirely out of cereplast bioplastic – entirely compostable, using at least 50% less energy than traditional thermoplastics.
