People make calls but also keep pens, notes, keys – any number of things. The design itself is minimal enough to live in Muji stores and I love how the no-frills design of the handset brings all the attention to the base plate. | Posted: 03 Aug 2010 08:38 AM PDT  I love a designer that understands ergonomics but I love one that understands humor even more. This BioErgonomic pen is shaped to better fit in the hands. The squatter base helps it rests between the fingers and that bump keeps it from slipping. Designer Mohsen Tafazzoly admits “usage probability for women is higher than men.” I wouldn’t count your stats too quickly. I know a lot and I do mean A LOT of men that would buy this. Taking a pot-shot at Q's ability is the U Drive Memory Pen and will hopefully be a fitting answer to pen and memory needs! Let me explain, the tip of this slick ink-less pen actually holds sensors that "read" and store the written text / sketches into the built-in memory card. The info thus stored can be accessed via the USB key at the rear of the pen. In short you don't need any paper to jot down notes, just the action of writing on any surface (hand, table, paper etc.) is sufficient. It doesn't even require external battery and recharges when hooked into the comp. The stored data is easily edited once retrieved via the computer, and this feature makes it an absolutely brilliant product! Picture sitting in the train, on your way home and suddenly inspiration hits you! Use this pen to draw up an imaginary sketch and later on refine it via your computer. Awesome! Designed as a bathroom sink faucet, Lu cleverly mixes metal with tinted green transparent plastics to highlight the functional beauty of the water valves inside. A built-in single axis hinge allows you to turn the spout up and down, plus the water flow can be manually adjusted at anytime. I'm curious to see how an entire bathroom range of fitting in this line will turn up and of course color combinations in this can get wild and exciting! Designer: Wen-Yo Lu ----------     |
| There’s Something in the SEAT! Posted: 03 Aug 2010 12:16 AM PDT  There’s NO ONE on the wing of the plane! The only people on this plane are sitting in their seats. So what’s the most important thing on the plane to make comfortable? You betcha. This is an economy class airplane seat designed by the likes of repeat-wower-designer to Yanko, Gerda Hopfgartner. Made to form fit the body, these seats have instantly activatable “smart control” which has the ability to adjust to your perfect setting with only the entry of a few measurements you’re free to memorize. It’s like of like those beds where you have a number you like and can always enter in, depending on your mood. I’d love one of these for the office. The head and backrest, pneumatic air cushion, and seat base all adapt automatically. Perfect LUMBAR support is achieved with a backrest joint placed at the hip joint of the passenger. Tray table extendable from the armrest. A personalized media screen for each chair turns to landscape or portrait and has USB and firewire ports to be able to experience any media they’ve brought along. This project came about when the designer decided that years and years of basically no innovation in the economy class was enough! Ergonomics for everybody! | Posted: 03 Aug 2010 12:03 AM PDT  Do you know the future? Do you know what will happen during the Helinski Olympics of 2030? Finland will be there, I would hope. Finland will be represented by a small fuel cell powered vehicle that’ll offer tours around the whole arena of sights showing off the fabulousness of indigenous Finland. See Finland’s entirety in this fantastic environmentally sound, tiny cute car. Made from local glass, wool felt, recycled bio plastic, bent birch plywood, and ceramics. All rolling hard on a Fuel Cell engine. This entire auto project shows the potential for Finland to go from global supply to a total local system “in order to decrease the carbon footprint and offer new industry possibilities” for the whole dern country. Local hydrogen plants powered by geothermal heat make this car go – making this entire project a fully emission free, energy independent system of transport. The car itself is built with the golden ratio, following Finnish design cues in their mathematical and rational ways. For example, the fuel cell is located in the floor, offering maximum interior space in a compact overall auto. Lots of glass windows, lots of viewing pleasure. Lots of bent birch and memory foam in the seats, lots of sitting pleasure.* *These seats move on rails through the car allowing for a rather uniquely easy time getting in and out of the car. The seats also have two potential layouts, one being a diamond shape maximizing leg space for each passenger, and a classic one opening up luggage space at the back of the car. The car is 3196mm long, 1848mm wide and 1514 high, with lots of potential for some fantastic paint jobs on the outside I must say. Designer: Miika Heikkinen ----------     |
| The Longest Legged Spidertable Posted: 03 Aug 2010 12:02 AM PDT  This right here is the daddy of the spider tables. Actually the “Daddy Long Legs” table, designed and made by Elvis Tomljenovic and Samir Secerkadic. Just yesterday I happened upon a playground playset made of metal, make to look just like a gigantic spider itself. I asked myself, “self, have you seen a table in just this fashion?” I did not think so. And what do you know! One comes across my plate this very next day! This DLLegs table is made for the dining room or the office and is made of solid oak with a glass table top. Finally the tallest of spiders has his own table!
