Posted: 30 Apr 2010 08:45 AM PDT Siluet`s form suggests a sketched outline in play. It looks like a wire hanger on steroids but that’s part of the charm. If you’re a perpetual mess cat with clothes everywhere, why fight it? I say embrace it. If you’re gonna throw clothes around, why not make it look artful? Just make sure your friends don’t call Hoarders on you because I’ve seen that show. They make you get rid of everything, EVERYTHING! Designer: Stephanie Estoppey |
Posted: 30 Apr 2010 08:41 AM PDT Fresh salt and pepper really do make the difference so the initial investment is totally worth it. Two chamber mills are a dime a dozen but the Y-Grinder by Joseph Joseph is particularly handsome. It’s made entirely of ceramic and guaranteed to be anti-corrosive up to 10 years. Now thats standing behind your product! Don’t you guys this it’s beautiful? Designer: DesignWright for Joseph Joseph |
Posted: 30 Apr 2010 07:51 AM PDT It's a wicked world out there on the internet and everyday a new virus keeps surfacing, ready to harm your system. What's creepy is that new ways of spreading mayhem keep cropping up. If it's not via files, then sharing disks and USBs cripple our computers. U + USB Hub and Disk Scanner works in tandem with popular virus protecting software to safeguard your hardware. Literally saved by the Cross! Designer: Wu Jiang |
Posted: 30 Apr 2010 12:21 AM PDT That’s a “Playlist Player,” made by designer Martin Skelly to bring the digital back to the roots of the tree, the vinyl record. I’m not going to sit here and tell you how much better vinyl sounds than other music, or how much more awesome records are than anything else. You already know that! What Martin Skelly is here to tell you is – listen to your music start to finish, in a record player setting, with the ability to spill beer on it. That is the gosh-honest truth, for real! In the words given to us at YD, Martin Skelly lets us know specifically that this project is “based on the rich interactions of vinyl records and turns digital playlists into physical objects that you can touch, treasure, drop, lose or spill beer on.” This is awesome. What this project actually is composed of is a (special) record player and five different color covered records, also of a special nature. Playlists of music are made by you on your computer, (Skelly suggests iTunes,) they are synced to the player with a memory stick, and are then ready to play. Each record represents a playlist. As the record is placed on the box, so too is the corresponding list ready to play. Here’s where it gets weird or awesome, depending on your specific political view on how music should be listened to. When the music plays, a band of light can be seen emitting from the box and through the translucent record. The light advances from the outer rim toward the middle of the record, just like a pin would playing a real bit of vinyl. This light, however, represents the time left on the list rather than the track being played. Also the light shows you where you are, but the temptation to skip tracks, fast forward, or rewind, are eliminated by the lack of being able to do so. The idea is that just like a record, there are less distractions from the music due to the lack of ease in changing tracks. Wild enough for you? Definitely TRON-approved, in my book I’d say. Martin Skelly himself decrees the design reference to be “retro professional” and the materials to be “reminiscent of Seventies hi-fi design.” Spot on, good chap. Keep them wheels a spinnin. Posted: 30 Apr 2010 12:15 AM PDT How much money you got? Enough to fix the grammar in that sentence? I thought so. You need a luxury aircraft. Let’s talk about not one, but two, here right now. The BMW company has a group called DesignworksUSA which designs fabulous aircraft like the “Embraer Phenom 100″ and 300. We’re about to talk about them right now. They’re little powerhouses that Tony Stark wouldn’t have a problem rolling out in. Check em out. The Embraer Phenom 100 and the Phenom 300 are luxury aircrafts. They fly hot. They are so expensive that one of the awesome photos in the gallery here has a newspaper in it that’s folded open to the Money section. That’s real. But let’s talk specs. Generally. Spacious cockpits and cabin. Room for a whole crapload of cargo. Really comfortable seats designed by car people. Baggage compartments on the sides and floor for max space. Cabin entrance for broad shouldered passengers. Armrests. Low cost, easy to maintain flooring. Really awesome airplane. Do whatever you want in it. The gallery below shows pictures from both the 100 and the 300 model. Usually they’re easy to tell apart because they’re labeled, but some aren’t. If you’re going to buy one of these planes, probably it would be best to take a look at the plane in person rather than just relying on the gallery provided here. Just a tip. No big deal. You’re rich. Designer: BMW Group DesignworksUSA |
Posted: 30 Apr 2010 12:03 AM PDT How fast would you like to go downhill, head first, on two wheels? Pretty much super fast? I’ve got something for you right here. It’s called the “Soopa Scoota” and it’s designed by a designer by the name of Liron Bobrov. And it’s wild. It’s made specifically for “extreme sport lovers.” I do wonder if that means two people who are very in love with one another who like to make that love physical while rolling down a hill really fast, or if it means people who go to the x-games? Either way: awesome. There’s not much to say about this scooter in the way of specific physical details, ironically, but what we do know here is that you lie on it with your hands up by your face controlling your stylish speedfest down the hill, and that you roll so very very fast. Yay! Designer: Liron Bobrov |
