Those Are Smart Bookends

Posted: 12 Apr 2010 08:54 AM PDT

There was a time when people described inanimate objects as “smart”, to indicate a certain level of class and appeal. The Book Stop by Cubo3 are simple bookends meant to evoke humor in a playful way. You know what? They look “smart” if I do say so myself; not because they’re cute, but because they’re reading. Clever clever. They’re made of double metal lamina and you can get them in many colors. Just hit up their site.

Sexy Audio Makes Unicorns Happy

Posted: 12 Apr 2010 08:50 AM PDT

Take a look at the speakers next to your computer and ask yourself if they’re sexy. I’m going to assume you answered no and present you with the ICIC System of Computer Speakers by Lukasz Natkaniec. The simple shape was designed to help spread sound in a manner we all expect; slight angled up and out. No idea what it’s made of but the Unicorns are happy. Yes Unicorns are sad when your speakers suck. I’m not drunk this morning. I’m telling the truth. Don’t take me away. I’m sane I tells ya.

Did You Hug Your Coffee Today?

Posted: 12 Apr 2010 04:07 AM PDT

The Alfredo Coffee Cup encourages you to get a bit more interactive with your daily cuppa. While the main coffee mug is made from wood, the redesigned saucer is made from ceramic. More like a cup lazing on a hammock, the overall effect of this set is that you can place your sugar and milk sachets comfortably in the tray below, while you caress your mug and share the warmth of the hot brew.

Kodak Brownie Revived For The 2012 Olympics

Posted: 12 Apr 2010 03:12 AM PDT

Reviving the Kodak Brownie for the future Olympics is quite exciting and traditional, since Brownies were often made to commemorate events and anniversaries. Just to skim through a few details: this 2012 Olympic Kodak Brownie has been modeled as a ‘box Brownie’; specifically the Brownie Flash 3 from 1962. Proportionate to the Flash 3, the new avatar is 66% of the scale, representing the tech advances made since the original was discontinued.

Key features include:

  • The 'triple-lens’ design with one main aperture and two viewfinder apertures.
  • One simple shutter button with no other controls
  • A disproportionally large flash.
  • A decorated front.
  • A fold up sports viewfinder.

The viewfinders, aperture and shutter are located in the same positions as in the original Brownie, making it feel like home to the Brownie lovers.

The Modern Features include a fabric wrist-strap located at the rear of the camera, which replaces the leather strap found on the top of the older camera.

How to use the Brownie:

Like the original Brownie, the user must look down from above into the viewfinders; and like the original Brownie, a different viewfinder is used depending on the orientation of the camera and the picture being taken, one viewfinder is used with a portrait image and the other for a landscape image. For low-light photography, a flash is included in the camera. Unlike older box-Brownie models, the flash is included in the design and pivots outwards from its storage position inside the side of the camera.

The camera can be manufactured using ABS to give it sustainability.

With thanks to Denis Coleman, Charlie Kamerman (kodakcollector.com), Michael Pritchard and Michael Wong (britishphotographichistory.com) for their input and feedback.

Heartbeat Baby Bump Bump Bump

Posted: 12 Apr 2010 12:16 AM PDT

How would you like to bump, bump it up? How healthy is your heart? Well even if you hate amazing beats, and even if you’ve got some sort of terrible heart condition, you can glance with glee at this fabulous watch by Seahope: the “Heart Beat Watch!” It’s got so many LED lights on it you wont know what to do with yourself. Perhaps tell the watch where to start? You’ve got LEDs spiking in all the right places. Your heart will soon be prone to swoon over it.

The series of LED lights on this watch are meant to mimic an EKG spiking right at the right time. There is no real electrocardiogram system on this watch, but father time might know where his heart is when you’ve got it on your wrist! One minute is then shown on the sub LED screen below.

Two modes can be chosen.

1. Normal LED watch mode, which lights up on your command, only for a moment so as to save power.

2. Always on, which of course is for when you want to constantly stare at the time all day, which is approximately the amount of time the watch stays charged if you run it non-stop.

And, AND, you know how most watches, when they run out of power, you’ve got to buy a whole new battery for? Not this one. This one charges via USB.

Designer: Seahope [ Buy it Here, Heart Beat Watch is available for $219.00 @ YD Store ]

That’s how pretty this is! Believe it! Have you ever had the need for an infusion? Perhaps a bag of fresh fluids in your veins to clean you up a little bit, or maybe you’re low on blood? Sometimes when this is a need, you also just happen to be living in New York, where you’re not allowed to sit still for more than a couple minutes or you’ve lost your job and lifestyle! So what do you do? You get a “Hook Man!” Designed by Chaozhi Li, a fabulous inventor who’s got style on the mind as well! When I first saw this design, I thought it was for some Tron body armor!

When using this product, you’ve got your liquid up on top, the tube running down your arm, and the IV plugged into your hand like usual. When the substance is about to run out, an alarm sounds and you can pop it out and keep on going on your way!

Safe? Sound?
