Posted: 22 Dec 2010 05:02 AM PST Piece of Peace is a relief effort concept that makes use of the box they’re usually shipped in. The box can be unfolded and taken apart to reveal a world map. The idea is relief should mean more than just food and clothing but also tools to educate. Designer: Lie Zhong-Fa ---------- |
Posted: 22 Dec 2010 04:57 AM PST The tradicional porcelain piggy bank has always been broken by its owner. Now armed and ready it wants revenge! Unfortunately for the pig, the brass hammer just makes it easier for you to smash it apart. Cute. Designer: Furf Design Studio ---------- |
Posted: 22 Dec 2010 01:57 AM PST The antenna issue of the iPhone 4 is legendary and making light of the situation is the Icon iPhone Case with its not-so-subtle antenna extension! On second thoughts it's a stark reminder of those bulky phones we used to use. Anyways if the icon doesn't catch your fancy, you can splurge on the colorful hues of the Iro Cases. Incidentally Iro means "color" in Japanese and love the taxi version! The Icon case is made with premium quality silicone, and comes with free protectors and the Iro cases crafted with high quality polycarbonate and feature UV coating for extra protection. Both the cases will be available by this year-end. I'm booking mine now! Designer: Essential TPE ---------- |
Posted: 22 Dec 2010 01:52 AM PST The prolific design hub Art Lebedev is out with another of its creation and design-wise it's got a major Philips hangover! I'm talking about the Optogan LED Lamp. To quote the studios, "the lamp combines classic ideas with advancements in microelectronics." Anyways, the lamp features a radiator encasing that is designed as a set of ridges, which help in dissipating heat. These energy saving bulbs come as 40 & 60 watts. Simply love their organic form! Posted: 22 Dec 2010 12:10 AM PST Iterations and iterations! If there’s one thing a tech and design writer cannot possibly ignore or resist, it’s Tron. With this brand freaking new movie Tron: Legacy out now, the folks at Disney have basically a sure shot as far as the internet crowd goes, and for the most part, everyone riding on the wave has their own shot at fifteen minutes of fame. Here’s a designer taking that opportunity to the max with some alternate Light Cycle designs made for your pleasure! This project is simply an exercise in enjoyment with designer Wallace Campbell following what he sees as the essential elements included in a Light Cycle, bringing unto the world another iteration with super sweet bright lights and blackness, all you could ever want. A hubless wheel system, light trail, and glowing accent lights are amongst Campbell’s self-imposed rules for the bike. Included also are a set of reality based parameters in place to bring the bike closer to a real world production. Included in this list are a windshield, side view mirrors, ecgonomical seat, and more. There is a faring on the left side of the vehicle but not the right simply in order to show off the turbine style engine. Designer: Wallace Campbell ---------- |
Posted: 22 Dec 2010 12:03 AM PST Love for a design for such a specific purpose, that’s what I’ve got here. Designer Bradley L. Bowers found himself intrigued by the idea of a desk/surface as an artifact that engages and enlivens its environment. Should all desks and tables and such seek to activate the space they sit in? That’s a big question. What Bowers decided to do here is create a desk that’d alter the space it’s in: perception, interaction, and interpretation. This is a desk for writing haiku. What a unique sort of assignment Bowers bestowed upon himself. A desk that collects elements from the room around it, integrating into the space, made specifically for writing a single type of poetry. Lovely. Designer: Bradley L. Bowers ---------- |
Posted: 22 Dec 2010 12:03 AM PST Modular systems are taking over the world. If you’ve got an item, it’s only an item. If you’ve got an item that can sit by, connect to, or fit in a system of similar items, you’ve got something so much more. The project we’re taking a look at right here is MPS, or Modular Plant System, and it’s a completely open system of poles and bowls for you to go wacky with combinations of for your very own hanging garden. You’ve got a collection of Urban Nature premium powder coat finishes. There’s White, Aged Bronze, Aged Brass, Cast Iron, Copper, Gun Metal, and Pewter. Each of these bowls and rods is made of stainless steel and coated with a premium powder coat. The stainless steel used in this whole project is 80% recycled content, the powder coating process emitting zero VOCs, the entire line 100% recyclable. There are three different sizes of rods, and three different sizes of bowls. Go crazy! Designers: Urban Nature ---------- |
Want to Share a Pinhole Picture? Posted: 21 Dec 2010 01:00 AM PST Flutter In Pinhole is a zero-fuss cardboard pinhole camera. It works like a Polaroid camera e.g. instant pictures. The idea behind the project is radically different from its kitsch appeal. It's aimed at the traveler who'd like to stay in touch via postcards. The photographs are captured into a pre-drawn frame, which you can then add a message to and post. There are some third-world sentiments woven into the description saga, but I'm steering clear of it. Only for the love of this concept and how unique it is! Totally going to buy a dozen and send it to all my friends! Designers: Yoo Geun-hyuk & Yoon Bo-jung ---------- |
