Posted: 16 Dec 2010 01:05 AM PST Until we can cure common communicable diseases, our best defense is prevention. Door knobs and handles are huge breeding grounds for those microscopic bastards so why not create self-steralizaing door handles? BAM, we’ve got one here for you called wait for it… the Door Handle with Self-Steralization System. Uses UV light to do the dirty work. Simple design and effective. Explains why it won a Red Dot concept award. Door Handle With Self-sterilization System is a Red Dot Design Concept winning entry. Designer: Choi Bomi ---------- |

Posted: 16 Dec 2010 01:00 AM PST Winter is setting in and one of the biggest concerns is getting towels dry enough for repeated use . FOLD Radiator is a handy solution where you use its bent corners to hang your wet, used towels; keeps them dry and warm. Thankfully it looks nothing like a radiator – easily passable as wall art. Totally want one. Designer: Mikolaj Adamus ---------- |
Posted: 16 Dec 2010 12:15 AM PST The title says it all. You clever, clever designer. It’s obvious where the inspiration came from but the question is, does it float? The answer, YES IT DOES. In case you’re caught in sudden flood, removing the cushions reveal a totally buoyant boat with real oars. Designer Bongyoel Yang says he designed it for the “Global Warming Generation.” Damn, it’s a cool concept with dire implications. I’m torn. Designer: Bongyoel Yang ---------- |
Posted: 16 Dec 2010 12:10 AM PST So you’ve seen your fair share of harddrives, right? You’ve got the kind that sit inside your computer (lame!) then there’s the kind that you can carry with you and access on multiple computers (getting warmer), now there’s on that you can basically just connect to a monitor and use as a trackpad (whoa, what the?) That’s right, this utterly simple block hunk of technology is a trackpad that doubles as a harddrive that doubles as an all-access machine. There’s an HDD version and an SSD version, the top is made with carbon fiber and the base is made of glass. The top is sensitive to touch, and the whole project is green as it can be. This is one of those projects where you really wish there were just a few more details that’d made it turn into a real live product. Inspiring! Designer: André Silva ---------- |
Posted: 16 Dec 2010 12:10 AM PST Schattengewächs begins like any other grow-it-yourself plant kit but the payoff isn’t a real plant, rather it’s a light – shaped like flowers, trees and even insects. Adore the play between real and artificial. There’s no power switch. It automatically “grows” thanks to a photosensor and the whole thing runs on four coin cell batteries. The pot is made of clay and all the inner bits are molded from biological plastic. By the way, Maximilian Winkel is an awesome name. I will say it all day today. Posted: 16 Dec 2010 12:03 AM PST Yachts for days! I always love a good yacht design. This one goes by the name Submerge and is a 150′ catamaran powerboat. It means business. It’s what they call “the best of both worlds” because not only is it an advanced yacht design, it’s got submarine-like qualities as well. It’s got two decks, one above and one below, creating a double world for the client to immerse themselves in the sea in so many ways more than one. Behold. Designer: Alex Marzo ---------- |
Posted: 16 Dec 2010 12:02 AM PST If you’re the sort of person who carries wine around all day, you know it can indeed get quite perilous. You want to bring that wine around the place but you’re not in to the idea of it crashing down around your feet. You’re also not about the idea of carrying around in a shopping bag. So what do you do? You pick up some Wine Up Series wine transportation products. Carry that red and white in style, grace, and perfect safety. Designed to transport wine bottles in and outside of your car, ready to use at the drop of a hat. Functional, resistant to damage, and they fold down into nothing. Four designs are available right this moment, with I’m sure more on the way. Designed and produced in Italy. Designer: Averli srl ---------- |
