Sunbeam Designer Series Glass Kettle

Posted: 08 Apr 2010 08:25 AM PDT

I’m a bit jealous of you Aussies because you guys get this beautiful Sunbeam kettle designed to look like a carafe. Designer David Knott wanted something high-end and functional but to do so meant developing an electronic temperature sensing control to avoid the need for a steam tube up into the handle like most electric kettles. The result is a completely transparent design; modern and sculptural. The handle is chrome plated and the glass body is manufactured by Schott Duran.

T-Shirt Pocket Does More Than You Think

Posted: 08 Apr 2010 08:10 AM PDT

Looks like an ordinary t-shirt but look closer and you’ll see a peculiar zip front and seam in the bottom left. That friends is the novel and innovative pocket the shirt folds into for travel and when not in use, and it’s called the Pockit. The company was started by Christian Karlsson and Frankie Chan and presents a new way to produce and ship a t-shirt. No packaging required because it is its own packaging. Clever boys! I want one.

Needlepoint Woes Resolved

Posted: 08 Apr 2010 02:16 AM PDT

An encore to the Big Eye Needle is this neat idea called the Easy Needle. Unlike the Big Eye, which had an expanding loop eye, the Easy Needle has a minor slit in the eye to allow the thread to slide in comfortably. I know many use magnifying glasses to thread the needle, but if  Easy Needle doesn't interfere with the quality of my stitch, I'd be willing to give it a try.

How Practical Can The iPad Get, iBookends?

Posted: 08 Apr 2010 12:25 AM PDT

Did you have a life before the iPad? Did you even read books or see any movies before this Steve God Jobs-sent device came around? I know, life was so lame without this magic device, and I really wonder how you could keep your books lined up on the shelf before support came around in the form of iBookends. Designer Dominic Wilcox has his own take on the scene, hit the jump to know more!

My idea this week is an accessory to transform the whizzbang iPad into a simple practical object that may be useful around the home, in this case a bookend.
I will probably buy an iPad at some point. It is a beautiful object and is apparently wonderful to use. I don't think I'll read books on it as a paper book has higher resolution text, is about four times lighter and doesn't need a battery. The iPad will definitely be a success as an entertainment device, looking at photos, reading an e-magazine, watching a movie and visiting websites, but whether it will become a 'useful' thing is a bit of an unknown. Hopefully the people who make the software apps will come up with something that turns the iPad from a delightful luxury item into an essential piece of equipment. Maybe one day we will look back and think 'what exactly did we do before the iPad?' or maybe we'll think 'Well, it made a stylish bookend'. Your comments are very welcome…

Grow Ye a Sculpture

Posted: 08 Apr 2010 12:12 AM PDT

If there’s one thing I love, it’s sculptures that grow. Grow and grow and grow until they break out of whatever they were in and become a monster that destroys the entire Earth! Oh my goodness watch out world, “Terraform Stulpture” by Robert Cannon is just the kind of sculpture to do such a thing as that! Plants and rocks, rocks and plants! Actually moss. Moss seats, moss circles, and moss towers!

Each of the pieces you see here are made of concrete and moss, two of my most favorite natural elements! Hooray! Take a peek through the gallery of his works below, and if you ever meet Robert Cannon, be sure to tell him I’d like one of the giant hands please thanks!

My Back Not Flat

What you’re about to see here is a bunch of perfection in triangular and wave-tastic dimensions. It’s the clarity that makes this particular set of three seats the greatness it is. The name of this project is “Skeie| | Wave” because Skeiel AS is the name of the group that designed it, and WAVE is what’s going on in the back of the seat. Made for locations that tend to the education and entertainment departments of the world; these seats, since there’s not too much to them, must be like I said: perfect.

Curved shell back hooked up to a triangular steel bar unto which all of the elements of the chair are fixed. And it’s so pretty! It’s just fantabulous in it’s niceness!

I could see myself totally watching a lecture in one of these sassy ladies.

Moon Phase Watch Extravaganza!

Posted: 08 Apr 2010 12:03 AM PDT

Usually, when there’s an extravaganza, there’s a whole bucket full of them. But not this time! But why?! I’ll tell you why. It’s because we only need one, yes, ONE of them. This is the one right here. It’s called the “Moon Watch” and it’s made by those fabulous folks over at The Emotion Lab. Not only does this one tell you the phases of the moon as they happen, this one tells you the 24 hours in the day as well.

AND not only does it tell the time and the phases of the moon, whatever you like dependent on the button you press, this watch also has a display dependent on how dark it is. That’s radical!
